The systems many of us were taught to trust are revealing their cracks. For marginalized communities, this is not new. They have always had to build cultures of collective care, mutual aid, and creative survival outside of institutions that were never truly for them. That knowledge is the inheritance this moment is asking all of us to learn from.

What is shifting more broadly is the recognition that we have been conditioned to look vertically for solutions, to wait for change to come from above, and in doing so we have lost touch with our capacity to look horizontally, toward each other, toward the webs of mutual care that have always been the ground of human flourishing. Rooted was founded in the belief that that ground still exists, and that it can be remembered and serve as the foundation for mutual care.

the moment we are in

what we believe

The isolation felt by so many people is not a personal failure.

It's in the water...

Many of the forms of suffering we carry privately are not only about personal experience and history. They are also about the water we are all swimming in. Dominant systems obscure and direct us away from relational and kinship ways of being, from ancestral knowledge and lifeways, from connection to the more-than-human world, and from the gift cultures and practices of mutual care that human communities have always depended on.

We also believe that the paradigms we wish to shift are not only external to us. They are embodied and embedded, lived in our patterns of relating to ourselves and each other. It is through play, creativity, and the willingness to take relational risks that new possibilities for relationship can begin to emerge.

Creation flows through each person, and people are yearning to know their creative power and contribute to the birthing of new worlds. This means fostering spaces where ideas can be seeded, tended, and grown, holding each other's visions with non-judgment and mutual regard, and stepping into our co-creative power together.

Change requires disruption & experimentation & imagination

We are Creators

“If there is no church in the wild, if there is study rather than knowledge production, if there is a way of being together in brokenness, if there is an undercommons, then we must all find our way to it. And it will not be where the wild things are; it will be a place where refuge is not necessary and you will find that you were already in it all along.”

J - The Undercommons

how change happens here

Rooted is an ecology of practice and relational experimentation.

reclamation

Raising critical consciousness together. Studying the gift cultures and care ecologies that dominant systems have asked us to forget. Learning to listen to the embodied and ancestral knowledge that lives in us.

Disrupting learned and inherited patterns. Building capacity for discomfort and uncertaining and moving through disorientation and encounter through embodied practice, and the kind of play that makes new shapes possible.

Nurturing and midwifing each other's visions. Bringing creative contributions into the village we are building together. Practicing what it means to be makers of culture rather than consumers of it.

improvisation, experimentation & play

regeneration

Our work is dedicated to cultivating conditions for care ecologies, buen vivir, biophilic orientations, and the commons to emerge. This unfolds through three interwoven movements that spiral and deepen over time.

Rooted supports the creation of conditions for things to shift.

what becomes possible

the rooted village

study programs

Curated learning journeys for those who want to go deeper into the ideas, practices, and questions that animate Rooted's collective life. Available to villagers and to those coming for the first time.

We Become World-Weavers

We learn to shift out of a consumer-like way of being in the world to discover ourselves as makers of culture and weavers of worlds, as people whose presence, gifts, and visions matter to the whole.

Change that ripples and spirals

Change here happens through repetition, relationship, and the accumulated experience of showing up and being met in a space genuinely invested in our becoming. And this kind of change spirals and ripples out from us into our relationships.

our blueprint for care reactivates

Care stops being an idea and starts being a daily reality. People re/member capacity to give and receive across difference.

Isolation becomes interdependence

The experience of being alone with one's struggles softens into a felt sense of belonging to something larger, a web of mutual investment and shared becoming.

We are experimenting, together, with the conditions under which care, trust, and interdependence can become lived realities again.

Not just for the people inside Rooted, but as a contribution to a much larger movement of people working to reworld the world from the ground up.
