Grieving Toward Liberation With Oceana Sawyer

Teacher(s):
Oceana Sawyer

In this space we will be tending grief as many of our ancestors have done before us: around a fire with music, movement, memory excavation, vocalization and as much or as little wailing required to be with our losses well enough that there is a bit of space to dream some new dreams.

This is sacred space. Do what you must to arrive on time. At some point, the entrance will be sealed and no one will be able to enter physically, though you may leave at any time. While you’re in the space, offers will be made and you’re invited to take only the ones that suit you.

Please do whatever feels good for you to do and nothing more, whether it’s full on wailing or quietly witnessing and anything in between. Participating from a moving vehicle is discouraged given the potential of the space to create a non-ordinary state of awareness. It is also recommended that you plan a day or evening of light activity following the circle to facilitate further integration and contemplation.Please arrive in the space with the following:Fire of some sort - a candle, fireplace, firepit, woodstove, chimenea, etc.A vessel of water and/or earth - cup, bowl, gord, etc Comfortable clothes in which you can move and maybe sweatDrinking WaterSomething with which to record your thoughts/revelations - paper, pen, crayons, electronic device, etcAn altar that includes, among other meaningful pieces, a representation of the loss you wish to honorOptionalHand instrumentArt suppliesEye maskThe circle will be formally opened and closed. If you leave early, please be mindful to “close the door behind you” and re-ground yourself in ordinary reality.
